![]() Now that’s the right person to follow and admire. He is a great and successful man who strives to be the best at his work. Why is Usher Raymond is my hero, and why is he important to me? He is important because he is who I admire. Before he does his concerts, he always needs his m&m candies. ![]() Usher likes to pay a visit to his grandmother once in a while and eat the food she cooks. Usher was born in Tennessee on October 14, 1979. And I’m quite sure he is thankful for that. He’s mother helped him get to where he is at right now. Usher scored his first record deal at the age of 15. She was with him through thick and thin and that’s why he has a lot of respect for her. Usher and his little brother James grew up without a father figure in their lives. However, he has no wife and no children, but one day he dreams of having them. Usher currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Usher is a good man who believes “There ain’t nothing to do but to do it.” These words came from a good man's heart - Usher Raymond’s heart. He does this by throwing concerts, and making donations. As Usher said, "I’m doing something everybody else should be doing.” He gave them a home, and a memory they would cherish. In Louisiana, he gave a poor family with nothing to live with some hope. Usher does things with no regard for anything. The little things that he does are different from others. Usher always strives to achieve greatness in such as his job as an R&B singer. He is considerate, confident and very down to earth spiritually, emotionally, and physically. He is my hero because of various reasons, such as his ability to care for others, whether he knows them or not. She is super bright, passionate about engineering and a true leader among her peers,“ said Lee Llambelis, DDC Deputy Commissioner for Community Partnerships & STEAM Initiatives.My hero is a great man who goes by the name of Usher Raymond. She is an incredible role model for our students. Shakiesha was so impressive that we hired her as a college aide immediately after the summer internship program ended. She came to STEAM via the DYCD Ladders for Leaders program as a high school summer intern. She is very much like the students of Usher’s New Look. “Shakiesha Featherstone represents the best of the best of the NYC Public School System. We will continue the important work of helping youth rise above their circumstances and thrive as the leaders they were destined to be,” stated LaToya Henry, NY Program Manager for Usher’s New Look. “ Usher's New Look is about transforming the lives of youth, so they become passion-driven global leaders who change the world. She indicated that initially she thought she would be designing building structures, but that she found her passion in civil engineering and infrastructure. Shakiesha credits the DDC STEAM team with having mentored her to her present position. She also spoke about the importance of finding mentors that can help guide and encourage you along the way. Shakiesha spoke to the students about how she found her spark, the importance of internships and what she had learned through her many internships. Shakiesha has a BS in Civil Engineering with a minor in environmental engineering. DDC High School Summer Internship Program, and DDC College Intern alumnus Shakiesha Featherstone spoke to New Look students about her journey as a public school student from East Flatbush, to recent college graduate, to her career as a civil infrastructure engineer. The summer program had the theme: Connecting STEM to the Arts through Imagination, Creativity and Innovation. The foundation reached out to STEAM to request a career day presentation to launch the first session of Usher’s Virtual Summer Academy. Students who participate in Usher's New Look go on to Higher Education or Job Placement. The program, which starts in the 8th grade and progresses through high school and college, has four basic pillars: Talent, Education, Service, and Career Readiness. Usher founded New Look to provide teens from under resourced communities with a new look on life through education and real-world experiences. On May 29, 2020, DDC STEAM partnered with Usher’s New Look Foundation, which was launched by singer, songwriter, actor, and businessman Usher Raymond IV.
